Here’s what I sound like on the air
Storytelling is at the heart of all my air work. Connecting to the listener through relatable, interesting content and making “eye contact” through my voice and word choices are key to my on-air presence.
Audio Storytelling
Using music to help tell a story is one of the most effective ways I know to bring a story to life. An audio “show and tell” helps listeners understand the music more fully. It’s music education packaged in a delightful listening experience.
Beethoven’s 5th Symphony. Can you recognized the four-note theme that Beethoven weaves throughout the entire piece?
Beethoven to Star Trek. A little tense theme from the early 19th century traveled all the way to the final frontier.
Mozart quoting himself. Mozart’s music can often be a window into his world. In this case, a delighted Mozart knows how to play to the crowd.
The Bourne Rossini? The suspense-filled action-packed Jason Bourne movies were deserving of fitting theme music. Did Moby find inspiration in Rossini?
The Music Room
The Music Room is a daily exploration of music through a theme. Every day I curate a new theme and take listeners on a delightful journey with three to four pieces over approximately 20 minutes. “Recomposed” was the theme on a recent day, and this clip shows how Bach recomposed music by Vivaldi.
In this example, the cello was the theme for the day. Listeners learned a bit about the cello and heard some incredibly beautiful music written the instrument. Note: This is not a scoped aircheck, so that you can experience the feature as listeners heard it.
A recent day
Here’s a scope of March 25, 2024 recorded in my home studio. Rather than compiling “best of” breaks across several days, here you can get a sense of what an “average” day sounds like.
